Beach Sunset Contemporary Oil Painting

Contemporary Painting of a Beach Sunset

Seaside Oil Painting

The magnificent sunset sends a rainbow of color over the shimmering sea in this contemporary oil painting. During this special time, there is a magical spectacle when God paints the sky! This seaside painting is done in a Monet style.

This is a special painting to me because it was something I created after losing our sweet dog, Chula.  Chula loved to chase seagulls on the beach, and she traveled with us to many seashores in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Texas.  Although she didn't like the water, she loved to chase the waves along the shore.

I miss her so very much. I miss the pitter-patter of her little paws. The way she would tuck us in at night by going to the foot of the bed and not leaving until we were asleep.  I miss the way she would come running when I would cut an apple or a cucumber--those were some of her favorite treats.

We have a lake behind our house, and she loved to chase the fish at the water's edge. They would splash about when she would come running.   As she got older, she settled for just sitting there on the little hill overlooking the lake. Before she passed, I watched her sit on the hill just staring at the lake.  Little did I know it would be the last time she would sit there so proudly. Pets leave us much too soon.

Chula is with her previous owners in heaven. An elderly couple had her before we did.  It is quite a miracle on how Chula became ours.  A friend of mine  brought us together with this sweet doggie that needed a new home.  The elderly lady survived her husband for a short time and didn't know who got her little dog.   I found out later, by accident, that I worked with the elderly couple's niece who was able to tell her Aunt that Chula was in a happy home!

A friend of mine sent me the Rainbow Bridge poem.

Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who were sick, hurt or in pain are made whole again.
There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth.
So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches! The ears are up!
The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group!
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take him in your arms and hug him.
He licks and kisses your face again and again - and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.

Painting Edges of three New Coastal Paintings

I put my last three oil paintings in an assembly line to paint the sides.  I often take over the dining room table to perform this task.   The painting in the middle is based on our trip up to Watercolor Beach, FL with Chula, our dog.   I think I will call it "I Only Have Eyes for You". John was focused on Chula and not the beautiful woman who rode by on the sunlit sidewalk next to a stream.  I knew when I took this photo, that I would capture that moment on a canvas one day.  I miss our little Chula.  She loved to go on trips with us.   I also painted this glistening waterlily painting based on a Florida marsh at sunset.   The carnival of colors are delightful and memorizing.  I am a big fan of Monet and can see his influence in the way I paint my waterlily paintings.  I remember visiting an art museum and admiring one of his waterlily paintings.  I asked the curator why the edges still had white  canvas showing and remarked that it looked unfinished.  She said that Monet

Sunrises and Sunsets: My Next Chapter

Sunrises and sunsets are my favorite subjects to take photographs of and paint.  They signify a brand new start and a closing of a chapter.   I have started a new chapter in my life!  My husband and I have moved back to Texas after leaving over 20 years ago.  I enjoyed living in South Carolina for a several years but spent the last 20+ years in Florida.  It is great to be back in the Rio Grande Valley by family and were we were both raised.  I was also very fortunate to be able to continue my long career in higher education in Texas where I work for a university.    As I turn the chapters in my life, I will share my love for paintings, nature and living well on this blog!  Living well to me means being a good steward of God's gifts, for the good of others to glorify and praise God.  I have enjoyed sharing my paintings over the years and am excited about painting new places in Texas.   I have yet to unpack from our move, and will leave my art supplies in boxes until we find our perm
